When we think of Sarah Jessica Parker the first words that instantly
come to mind are: sex, New York City, Carrie Bradshaw and of course,
shoes. Shoes, no matter which designer they are from: Prada, Gucci,
Versace or Manolo Blahnik. Shoes that were a lifeless but
absolutely important character of the show that made SJP a fashion icon.
That’s why the “Sex and the City” star has finally decided to turn her
famous footwear obsession into a pretty lucrative project, and that’s
why she has created her own shoe line that will be launched at Nordstrom
(and other hit stores) in 2014.
“In a silly way, I think it’s what people expected of me mostly because of Carrie Bradshaw,” says Sarah Jessica Parker. But this idea is not silly at all. As for her new design project, she relies on George Makemus, the longtime CEO of Manolo Blahnik, the most important shoe designer for Carrie at SATC. The line will be available in early 2014 and will include flat shoes and high heels Ms. Bradshaw style as well as accessories like bags.
Parker herself is limiting her high heels to only the nicest shoes because of medical recommendations. “For ten or so years I literally ran in heels. I worked 18-hour days and never took them off,” SJP told “The Edit” back in March. Her new objective as a shoe designer is to offer something completely different. “We’re putting new colors together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet,” she says. “And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles, and hardware, and really making it about the bag.”
The collection will have shoes priced from $200-$300 (€150-€230) and bags for just below $700 (around €530). There are no photos of the shoes yet, but I am sure thousands of women around the world will be keeping an eye on pumps and flats sporting the “SJP” logo.
