French fashion house Azzaro has just appointed Spanish designers from
Alvarno as the new creative directors of the brand. This announcement
is publicized nearly eight months after Azzaro dismissed its prio
creative director Mathilde Castello Branco. According to the WWD, the
French fashion house chose Spanish designers Arnaud Maillard and Álvaron Castejón
to take over the creative duties of the firm. The designer duo founded
their own womenwear label in 2009 named Alvarno that was presented at
the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid. Maillard and Castejón will make
their official debut as Azzaro creative directors during an upcoming
exclusive event at Azzaron boutique in Paris, France on July 5 showing
several pre-collection items.
For the first time a duo is appointed to helm the brand. After Loris Azzaro’s death back in 2003, Vanessa Seward was hired as the leading designer to leave the firm in 2011. Branco took over design responsibilities then but left after just one year with the French house. Azzaro is also known for being a respected and traditional maison of parfums thanks to such popular creations as “Azzaro Couture“, “Azzura” and “Pour Homme Elixir“.
The Spanish designers have sincere intention to be respectful to the brand’s history establishing it as the go-to brand for sexy and playful party dresses. Arnaud Maillard confirmed: “Not so much sexy but sensual. For instance, a wild animal clawed effect embroidered on tulle is meant to make a man want to rip [the garment] off.” Castejón (who has already worked for Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Maillard, who did the same for Karl Lagerfeld for nearly 15 years) will work on both, Azzaro and their own label simultaneously… Another announcement of new leading designers that we should keep an eye on!
